me: you know whats really remarkable though, and really great is that what we're talking about, mainly, is how this is a nobody moran from BFE, totally unqualified for this post. no one is talking about how insane it is that a woman would be selected as a runningmate. imagine if bush or gore woulda picked a woman, or even kerry. like hillary clinton really did no shit tear down a giant wall, and i don't think i fully understood that until now.
Zac: Right, but the thing is that Hillary doesn't hunt and eat moose burgers. She's politically a strong candidate. This isn't a good thing for women everywhere. It's like, if you're hot, girls, you could be picked by an old man. haha.
me: hahahaha no that's absolutely true. i don't mean to say that palin is a sucess for women -- but the fact that the shock over her is not related to her gender is truly remarkable

Zac: “People felt an attachment to him,” Vilsack said. “And I kick myself for not being more curious about their canvassing. His volunteers went out into the neighborhoods in the summer of ’07 and asked people: ‘Can we spend a few minutes of your time?’ Two weeks later, the people got a phone call, four weeks later they got an invitation to a speech, and six weeks later they got invited to meet Obama at the airport. We didn’t do that until fall. It’s a reflection of what he did as an activist. He knocked on doors.”
Just how they avoided the people that edwards had and went for people that didn't participate
and how they ignored shit like the regular democratic parties where all the candidates show up
he ran such an elegant campaign
me: well the magical thing, the key element that made it work, isn't the organizing or the approach
but him
you take that same machine and put hillary clinton on top of it or john mccain and young people are not showing up
while his way of organizing was revolutionary in politics and he deserves to be credited for it, the conclusion should not be that he ran campaigns the way they should be run
instead, he ran a movement instead of a campaign, and he ran a movement the way it should be run
in an america that was ready for a movement and not a campaign
Zac: that's a great way of putting it
me: and that is why, at the end of the day, mccain doesnt have a snowballs chance in hell, no matter what the polls say
